As a native of Seaside, California, Richard's upbringing was steeped in a rich culinary heritage. Growing up, he was privileged to witness his Filipino and Japanese grandmothers' culinary mastery in action, and it was a sight to see as they effortlessly created inspired dishes without ever consulting a recipe. To Richard, their kitchen was nothing short of an artistic studio and it left an impact.

From a youthful age, his admiration for food, the art of crafting inventive meals, and the joy of family gatherings was kindled. Today, he stands as a proud father of three remarkable adult children, a testament to the passage of time and the lasting bonds of family. His enduring partnership with his beloved wife, Rebecca, has spanned over three decades, and it is her unwavering encouragement and support that has fueled their journey together.

The Butcher's Pit is Richard’s latest adventure. As a seasoned journeyman butcher and a dedicated food safety specialist, his love of food can now be shared with a broader audience and with the community he calls home.
